Absence Protocol
Students who are not present for class due to an excused absence may make up missing work without penalty of point deduction. Any class work, quizzes, or assigned homework that was due or completed on a day when the student was absent, must be made up and turned in within two days of the student's return to school. Students who do not turn in work past this time frame will be allowed to submit work until the last day work is collected for each unit. If for some reason a student cannot finish a project or homework assignment by the due date, that student may ask the teacher for an extension. It is the student's responsibility to ask the teacher what was missed if he/she is absent.
Bring Your Own Device
Our learning team will be a "Bring Your Own Device" or BYOD school. East Cary Middle School allows students to use their personal phones, tablets, iPads, laptops, etc... for academic reasons only. Before students may bring those devices, the school will need to have a BYOD permission form on file and students need to understand that their devices are for learning purposes only. Failure to comply with these guidelines (examples: texting, making calls, playing games or using social media sites) will result in confiscation. You or your parent must arrive at the front office to pick up your device.
Academic Honesty
At no point this year should students copy work from another student. Students are not permitted to cut and paste from the internet. Students may not copy text and attempt to claim that text as their own work. Students who attempt to engage in the above listed activities will receive a grade of zero on that assignment and parents will be notified directly.
